How We Observe Earth Day at CFG

by
the CFG Editors

Continental Floral Greens is a family-owned, privately held American grower of premium foliage and specialty cut floral. Founded in 2009 on the slopes of Mount St. Helens, we've grown into one of the last large-scale commercial floral growers in the United States, with farms in Washington, Oregon, California, Florida, and North Carolina. We are builders. We think in decades, not quarters. We put people first: our employees, our customers, our communities. We measure success not just by what we grow, but by the legacy we leave behind. When we plant a seedling, we are making a 50-year business decision. We are building a 100-year company. And Earth Day is a reminder of why that matters. Each year on April 22nd, we take a moment to reflect on the work we do every single day: caring for the land, restoring what's been lost, and growing something that will outlast us. Here's what that looks like at CFG.

Growing and Restoring Forests at Scale

At the heart of our land stewardship is Continental Farm and Forest, the forestry and land management arm of CFG. Built on decades of experience, CFF supports working forests across the Pacific Northwest through reforestation, forest restoration, and on-the-ground land management. In 2026 alone, they're projecting approximately 1.5 million seedlings planted across Washington and Oregon. The approach is simple: focus on survivability, not speed. Quality planting today means healthier forests for the next generation.

Farming with the Land, Not Against It

We repurpose 100% of organic material from our harvests into mulch and natural fertilizer, cycling it back into the same soil it came from. We're also partnering with Earth Optics, a company that measures and verifies carbon storage through detailed soil mapping, to better understand the health of our timberlands and increase the amount of carbon our land stores over time. The results have been strong enough that we're expanding the program to additional farms.

Certifications That Hold Us Accountable

We don't pursue certifications for optics. We pursue them because they set a standard and keep us to it.

  • MPS-A+ (More Profitable Sustainability) — the highest possible sustainability rating in the floriculture industry, applied to all our Western greens. It tracks and reduces our water use, energy consumption, fertilizer inputs, and crop protection agents, verified by independent audit.
  • Fair Food Program — a nationally recognized certification for fair wages and safe working conditions on our California farms, with active plans to expand across all locations.
  • Certified Evergreen — awarded by the Tugboat Institute, recognizing our long-term commitment to the land and to building a business that endures.

Industry Partnerships We're Proud Of

A more sustainable floral industry takes all of us. That's why we invest in the organizations working to move the whole industry forward.

We're a proud supporter of Sustainabloom, the American Floral Endowment's free, research-backed resource hub helping businesses at every level of the supply chain adopt sustainable practices. We're also a member of American Grown Flowers & Foliage, championing transparency and accountability in domestic floral production.

Sustainability at CFG isn't a destination. It's a direction. From the forests we steward in the Pacific Northwest to the farms we tend across five states, every decision we make is guided by the same principle we started with in 2009: take care of the land, and it will take care of you.
