Land Stewardship

More Than Greens: Introducing Continental Farm and Forest

by
the CFG Editors

For decades, Continental Floral Greens has worked hand in hand with the land. While we are best known for sustainably harvested floral products, our foundation has always been rooted in responsible land stewardship. Today, we are proud to formally introduce Continental Farm and Forest, a growing division that reflects work we have been doing behind the scenes for years. What began more than a decade ago on our own mountain property has grown into a highly skilled team with deep experience in forestry, reforestation, land management, and restoration.

Over the last ten years, this group has intentionally expanded beyond management of CFG’s Mt. St. Helens property, building year-round projects that provide stability for our workforce. While we have long supported landowners where we harvest, we are now applying that same proven skill set at a larger scale. Today, Continental Farm and Forest partners with large landowners across the Pacific Northwest, helping them implement best practices and delivering professional land management services rooted in sustainability.

All of this work is guided by the same values that have defined our company from the beginning: care for the land, respect for the people behind it, and a long-term commitment to stewardship.

Our Work

Reforestation and Tree Planting

At the heart of Continental Farm and Forest is a commitment to replanting forests with care and intention. We work with large timber companies and regional landowners across Washington and Oregon, approaching each planting project with a focus on survivability rather than speed.

Our teams take the time to place each seedling correctly, knowing that quality planting today leads to healthier forests tomorrow. This approach has built long-term partnerships and continues to expand our reforestation work, with a 2026 forecast of planting approximately 1.5 million seedlings across managed forestlands.

Forestry Support and Land Management

As many timber companies reduce in-house forestry staff, Continental Farm and Forest provides experienced, on-the-ground support to help landowners manage their forests effectively. Our teams assist with field monitoring, inventory work, planting audits, unit planning, and boundary identification.

We also provide practical land management and construction services, including road and bridge maintenance, tree care, minor forest products and bough harvesting, and landowner consulting. Together, this work helps keep properties accessible, productive, and well cared for.

Fire Restoration and Resiliency

As wildfire risk continues to shape forest stewardship in the Pacific Northwest, our approach emphasizes both prevention and recovery. We work with landowners to implement pre-fire mitigation strategies and provide post-fire rehabilitation services that support long-term forest health and resilience.

Continental Farm and Forest is expanding to a dedicated 30-person, fire-certified crew, supported by experienced equipment operators and a returning seasonal workforce trained year after year. Our teams and equipment are purpose-built for fire-related work, including line construction, debris removal, and maintaining emergency access routes.

This experience also allows us to support broader recovery efforts. Through state-funded restoration programs in Washington, we partner with private landowners affected by recent fires to assess burned landscapes, remove hazards, and prepare land for recovery with a long-term stewardship focus.

A Workforce Built for Every Season

Continental Farm and Forest is built on a strong, experienced workforce that returns season after season. Our seasonal crews are the backbone of our operations, supporting the full cycle of work each year. In the spring, they manage planting and reforestation projects. Throughout the year, they handle forest cleanup and land management. During the holiday season, they support Christmas operations while also managing the purchasing and harvesting of material from properties beyond our own.

This consistency allows our teams to build deep familiarity with the land and deliver high-quality work across multiple properties. This year, we are expanding the Farm and Forest team and moving beyond a primarily seasonal model. By taking on projects year-round, we are creating greater continuity for our workforce and applying our experience across a broader range of land management, restoration, and forestry projects.

Leadership and Experience That Strengthen the Land

This work reflects the leadership that has shaped Farm and Forest from the beginning. Troy Turnbull, alongside our CEO and founder Jim Milgard, helped build CFG around a shared respect for forests and the outdoors. Troy has been instrumental in developing the Farm and Forest team and strengthening its operational capacity over time. His son, Tate Turnbull, now works alongside him as a leader within the division, continuing that commitment and knowledge across generations.

We also recognize Cesar Carrion, whose 30 years of experience in forestry and leadership in forest management have been critical to improving the health and productivity of our lands. His work has helped restore forest stands, increase production, and support the return of wildlife, resulting in stronger and healthier forests.

Looking Ahead

This February, the Continental Farm and Forest team will attend the Oregon Logging Conference for the first time. It marks an important step in sharing this side of our work more openly and connecting with others who care about the future of working forests.

Whether through floral greens, replanting, or restoration, our commitment remains the same: Grow. Restore. Protect.
