Continental Floral Greens is proud to introduce its debut of Dahlias grown in the Pacific Northwest. Known for their vibrant colors and intricate forms, Dahlias are beloved as one of summer’s most expressive flowers. This debut marks an important step in our mission to bring new products to market that highlight innovation through mother nature.

Innovation in Vase Life

Working with InFlora, a global leader in plant breeding, Continental Floral Greens has trialed a select series of Dahlias. These new genetics offer a longer vase life, giving retailers and consumers alike a lasting experience. This shift makes Dahlias more viable in the marketplace, where vase life has historically been a challenge.

Exclusive Test Offering

Continental Floral Greens has planted a select mix of varieties and colors to evaluate how they perform in the field, in shipping, and in consumers’ homes.

“As we test these new genetics, we want our partners’ feedback on color preferences, vase life, and consumer response,” said Steve DeVry, Product & Technology Development Manager at Continental Floral Greens. “Planning a Dahlia crop takes nearly a year, so the insights we gather now will be critical in shaping our next season.”

Varieties & Colors in the Debut

Our first Dahlia Debut includes two exciting series:

  • Lavender Purple (Dezign Series) – Earliest to flower, longest stems, and standout producer.
  • Naomi (Karma Series) – Bold, vibrant red.
  • Amora (Karma Series) – Velvety deep red.
  • Blue Lagoon (Karma Series) – Striking dark purple-blue.
  • Soft Whites and Pinks (Dezign Series) – New trial variety with promise for next season.

Future genetics are already in development with InFlora, including new whites, reds, purples, and ball-shaped forms.

Meet Steve DeVry

Leading this innovation is Steve DeVry, Product & Technology Development Manager at Continental Floral Greens. With a lifelong background in floriculture and experience in his family’s business, Devry Greenhouses in Canada, Steve brings deep knowledge and industry relationships to CFG’s cut flower program.

“I’m always looking for new products and new ideas that Continental can add to our offering,” said DeVry. “This Dahlia project came about because of a long-standing relationship in the industry, and I’m excited to see it come to life. It’s not just about what you know, but who you know, and those connections allow us to bring innovative ideas forward.”

Steve also added: “I want to give a special shoutout to Julio Mendoza and the growing team in Oregon. They’ve done an incredible job learning and growing a completely new crop, and they are the reason we’re having such success in our first year.”

For Partners & Customers

Continental Floral Greens is offering this debut Dahlia line in limited volumes to select mass market retailers and wholesale partners. Dahlias are available now into early fall, creating opportunities to showcase them during peak wedding and event season. Bouquets will be added as part of the program next season, expanding options for customers.

Dahlia Care Tips for Consumers

Dahlias can last beautifully when cared for properly. Here’s how to get the most from your flowers at home:

  1. Trim stems: Cut stems at a 45° angle before placing in water.
  2. Fresh water daily: Replace vase water every day with cool, clean water.
  3. Re-cut every other day: Give stems a small trim to improve water uptake.
  4. Use flower food: Dahlias benefit from preservative packets.
  5. Keep cool: Display away from direct sunlight, drafts, and fruit.

Looking Ahead

The Dahlia Debut represents the beginning of an ongoing journey to expand and refine Continental Floral Greens’ floral offerings. By testing exclusive new genetics, listening to partner feedback, and supporting local growing teams, we continue our mission of bringing innovative, niche products to market - blooms that surprise, delight, and inspire.
