Shared Ground: CFG connects with the Mount St. Helens Institute

Continental Floral Greens was born on Mt. St. Helens, and this summer, we took a step to honor that origin by sitting down with one of our closest neighbors.

On June 24, our Forester Cesar Carrion presented CFG's forest management practices and bough harvest operations to educators and U.S. Forest Service staff at the Coldwater Science and Learning Center, home base for the Mount St. Helens Institute (MSHI). MSHI is a 501(c)(3) outdoor education nonprofit bringing middle and high school students from across Southwest Washington and Northwest Oregon to learn, explore, and connect with one of the most remarkable landscapes in the Pacific Northwest.

The conversation was exactly what good neighbor relationships are built on: honest, curious, and collaborative. Cesar walked through how CFG approaches sustainable forestry on our Noble Fir farms near the monument, and the room asked great questions. USFS Lead Administrator Tim Schenk asked us to make it an annual tradition. We said yes.

MSHI's programs run spring through fall, hosting up to 150 students during day events and 27 for overnight stays at the Coldwater Center. They're growing, expanding tent areas, recreation grounds, and outdoor school programming in partnership with the USFS. We're proud to be part of that conversation.

CFG has always believed that good stewardship means showing your work. This was a chance to do exactly that: to share what sustainable harvest looks like on the ground, and to build a relationship with people who are investing in the next generation of forest stewards.
